March 15, 2004, 09:20: Melbourne, Australia - Lynn's House
Melbourne nights have been downright chilly lately. I came in two nights ago, met Lyn and Sus, and we also picked up Lyn's friend, Danelle. We set off to a restaurant and had some food, where I was able to liberally apply sweet chilli sauce to my hamburger. That stuff is amazing. After food, it was decided sleep was a good idea, and we went back home. I set up camp, and it was lights out very shortly thereafter.
Yesterday, Judd came over and picked us up. We were to spend the day walking around downtown. We parked at Judd's work, and took the tram into town, arriving at some bizarre architecture. We walked around for a while, and it was a fairly typical downtown setting, large buildings, traffic, etc. We had a good lunch by the Yarra River, and walked through a large casino, with Judd explaining how everyone there pretty much averages out to only get 90% of their money back from these places. Judd just so happens to work for the gambling industry. Walking around further, we went to the Botanical Gardens, and not too far away, I spotted a large floral clock. Someone has too much time and money on their hands.
We came back to Lyn's house and after a short while we went out to the legendary Espy, and meet the people I've been talking to online for a few years. This is an excellent bar/restaurant with multiple areas that have different bands (3 separate stages from what I could tell), a restaurant, a pool area, and I'm sure much more that I didn't see. It's set nicely in front of the ocean, and it really has a wonderful view of the city, which I was able to sample later on with a walk out on the docks. I also saw some possums. Judd, Lynette, Susie, Nikki, and I had some food, and relaxed there. It was very good to meet these people in person finally. I quite enjoyed this area, and the Melbournites are quite privileged to be so close to it all.
